Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship issues, or adjusting to changes in life, our individual counseling services provide a safe space to heal and grow.
At Authenticity, our approach to counseling is tailored to each client's needs and rooted in research. Decades of research tell us that a non-judgmental, non-coercive, trusting relationship between the client and the therapist is the most important, dynamic, and transformative part of psychotherapy. For this reason, we use a person-centered, relational-cultural approach grounded in Person-Centered Theory and Relational-Cultural Theory. Our top priority is for therapy to to be a safe place for you to show up, be vulnerable, and say whatever is on your mind without fear of judgment, shame, or guilt.
We then tailor treatment to your specific needs and goals, using psychotherapy that is evidence-based -- it works! For example, mindfulness-based practices such as yoga, meditation, and deep breathing have an incredibly strong evidence base for treating depression, anxiety, grief, chronic pain, and trauma (especially when paired with cognitive-behavioral tools). For interpersonal conflict, interpersonal effectiveness tools from Dialectical Behavior Therapy are highly effective in improving communication skills. For substance use disorders (and any big changes we humans consider making in our lives), motivational interviewing techniques help to resolve ambivalence, normalize setbacks, and support informed action steps.
